What prior knowledge is required?

None at all. Whether you are a complete beginner or a hobby pilot, you will receive a detailed introduction (briefing) from your instructor before the flight, who will tailor the level to your needs.

Can I always control it myself?

Yes! You sit in the captain's seat (left) and fly the plane yourself from takeoff to landing. The instructor sits next to you as co-pilot, providing assistance and taking over the radio or systems if necessary.
